They tend to gather very quickly in huge groups and it is a troublesome task to get rid of them. Not anymore! We’re sure you may have tried chemical sprays but either they have no effect on the ants or they pose a risk of contaminating your groceries. So, we suggest you try these simple kitchen ingredients instead. There are certain spices and ingredients that you could use to keep the ants away.
Cinnamon is considered to be one of the best natural ant repellants. It yields positive effects in both repellency and insecticidal activity because ants cannot stand the strong smell of the spice. All you need to do is to take some cinnamon essential oil and soak it in a cotton ball and apply on the common ant hot spots.. According to a study published in the International Journal of Scientific and Research Publications, cinnamon essential oil can be used to repel and sometimes kill ants.
2. White Vinegar
Vinegar is a common home remedy for getting rid of ants again because of its pungent smell. The strong smell also inhibits the scent trails that ants tend to follow making them lose their direction. All you need to do is to mix equal parts of vinegar and water and pour the solution in a spray bottle. Spray the solution around the entry points. You can even use lemon and peppermint instead of vinegar.
Borax is a type of salt that is toxic for ants. Ants get attracted to it and when ingested, it can kill them by destroying their digestive system. All you need to do is to mix borax with granulated sugar and add water to it until you get a paste-like consistency. Use it at the entry points and see them vanishing away.
4. Cucumber Peels
Don’t throw away those cucumber peels just yet. Ants hate the bitterness of these peels and they could keep them from entering the house. All you need to do is keep the peels at the entry points and replace these peels every day to ensure that ants don’t enter your house. You can even use peels from citrus fruits like oranges.
5. Chalk Powder
It is believed that if you draw a line with chalk powder, it may stop the ants from entering the house as it tends to interfere with their ability to follow scent trails left by other ants.
