Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Sunday the Japanese government will promote advanced technology as the key to economic growth and a society in which people live long lives.
“Science and technology play even more key roles in tackling challenges like aging,” Abe said in a speech in English at the Science and Technology in Society forum in Kyoto. “Its implications (are) of course positive.”
The premier said issues long seen as difficult can be solved by combining the latest technologies, such as robots and big data.
New ideas and innovations can be created by further promoting women’s empowerment, he said.
Abe attended the forum for the fourth consecutive year.
